Title : Powered Instrumentation in ORL Practice- A Surgical Review

Abstract

A retrospective study conducted at tertiary center. Study Design: The use of powered instruments in ENT surgery is a definite trend, and a way forward. Procedures in the naso-orbit area are likely to increase the domain of the ENT surgeon towards procedures that were so far purely in the ophthalmology domain. Application of powered surgery in ear and larynx though not prevalent yet, shows promise of growth in near future. Cost of instruments is high but not prohibitive. Hopefully, this factor will ease out with wider usage. Additional caution, hands-on training and choice of instruments with correct parameters are very essential. Shorter operative time and reduced complications are likely to make powered instruments more popular with surgeons.
