Title : Complication rate of otoplasty in Saudi Arabia, retrospective analysis at the biggest facial plastic surgery center

Abstract

Prominent ears (PE) are considered most common congenital external ear deformity among Caucasian which account about 5% of papulation and run-in families with equal gender incidence rate. A retrospective cross-sectional study targeted all patients with prominent ears and operated with otoplasty at King Abdul-Aziz University Hospital (KAUH) Riyadh, Saudi Arabia between January 2010 to December 2021. Total of 90 subjects (76 pediatric and 14 adult) (52 male and 38 female) included in the study and all of them operated with incisionless technique (Mustarde or Furnase or both). The overall complication ranged from hematoma 2.2%; infection 1.1%; skin/wound healing problems 3.3%; suture-related problems 2.2%; scarring 1.1%; pain and itching 12.2% and revision surgeries/recurrence 7.7%. Conclusion: the most common complication was pain and itchiness followed by revision surgery and recurrence.

Biography

Hassan Alassiry has completed his MBBS at age of 29 from Kung Saud Bin Abdulaziz university for health science, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and join ENT residency program immediately. He is handling another bachelor degree from college of science medical applied in Audiology and speech pathology from king Saud University. He has participated in 4 publications during his residency program. Currently he is a chief resident at his training center.
