Title : Treatment with natural honey of skin-mucous membrane substance losses in cervicofacial surgery in Abidjan

Abstract

There are many techniques for surgical repair of substance losses in cervicofacial surgery; there perform are not easy in some exercise settings. Directed healing remains the natural option. Natural honey by its healing properties, ease of use and quality / price ratio appears as a suitable therapeutic alternative. The aim of this study was to report the results of honey treatment of losses of cutaneous and mucosal substances in our experiment. This is a report of 4 cases of loss of substance or dehiscent wound of more than 10cm2. The outcomes during the scale of debridement, budding and epidermization after application of honey are described. The study concerned 4 men respectively aged 21 days, 8, 39 and 42 years. The loss of substance were the result of infections (n=2) and trauma, particularly iatrogenic. The measurements of the loss of substance varied between 39 and 98cm2. The outcomes were good after 4 weeks on average after application of honey. Our results seem encouraging. Honey thus provides a solution to the economic, moral, and technical difficulties of surgical repairs.
