Otolaryngologic procedures present a uniquely high risk to healthcare providers during the current SARS-CoV-2 epidemic.   While personal protective equipment may protect healthcare workers, the risk of aersolization from the source of contagion has not been routinely addressed in guidelines.  Herein, we propose a framework for the routine application of povidone-iodine solution to the mucosa of the upper digestive tract as part of routine preparation for surgery.
