Diabetes and Thyroid Relation

Thyroid dysfunction and diabetes mellitus are closely linked and named as endocrine disorders. In fact, type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, or metabolic syndrome, your risk of developing thyroid disease is increased. Thyroid diseases and diabetes mellitus are the two most common endocrine disorders encountered in clinical practice. Thyroid may overproduce hormones, causing a hyperthyroidism and underproduce harmones are hypothyroidism. Diabetes increases hyperglycemia caused by thyroid disease can contribute to metabolic syndrome. Metabolic syndrome is a group of five conditions are high glucose, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, low HDL cholesterol and a large waist. These group of conditions increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke.
