Abstract
Language learning and the process of socialization is a natural process of development that is unique to humans. profound hearing loss has far-reaching consequences, including speech development and personal-social consequences. This study aimed to compare the language and social skills development of normal-hearing children with hearing-impaired children and the effect of hearing rehabilitation on selected developmental aspects of hearing-impaired children. This research was conducted from 2020 to 2021 in Iran.In total, 149 children aged 6 to 18 months were divided into three groups: Normal-Hearing Children (NHC) [55 girls and 65 boys] by convenient sampling strategy, Non-Rehabilitated Hearing Impaired Children group (NRHIC) [11 girls and 13 boys] by non-random targeted method and Rehabilitated Hearing Impaired Children group (RHIC) [three girls and two boys] by the census. The Denver Developmental Screening Test 2 (DDST-II) was used to assess language and personal-social development. The results of this study indicate that Delays in language and social skills development are evident in hearing-impaired children at an early age, so the age of onset of rehabilitation should be reduced as early as possible to early childhood.
